Taking Home Your new addition
Taking home your new pet is a exciting time, in the first 24 hours please allow your bunny to settle in and get used to his/her new surroundings as you can imagine this is quite a stressful time for your bunny its imperative they are given time to adjust.
Once your new bun as settled you can handle your bun daily, all our babies have been handled regularly from a young age, please supervise young children as young bunnies can easily be injured or squeezed to death. children are advised to be seated while handling, Its normal for a new bunny to be a little frightend, we must remember they have left mum and siblings and all is new. learn your new bunny to trust with gentle stroking and feeding by hand.
LITTER TRAINNING
Litter training is very easy, most buns wee in a certain corner, just place some soiled shavings in the litter tray and place in that corner and you will find your bun will start to use this often, even if a house bunny and as access to a open indoor cage
TEETH CARE
Yours rabbits teeth will continue to grow over their whole life, their teeth are designed to break up fibrous materials such as grass and leaves, this is why its so important to give hay. If the teeth become damaged numerous health problems could occur causing pain and malnutrition.
Plenty of hay is not only nutritious but also wears down teeth.
RABBITS CHEW
It is normal behaviour for your bunny to chew wood blocks, card board boxes and bunny toys are great ways of providing this.
BE AWARE
Your bunny will chew carpets, furniture and wires so please make the area they play safe.
Check your bunnies teeth regular, once or twice a month ( I can show you how to do this )
The top incisors should overlap the bottom incisors, they should be of even wear with no long or malformed teeth.
If the bottom teeth should over lap the top teeth or look misaligned you must see a vet.
NAILS
Your bunnies nails will continuously grow and will require a regular trim monthly by either yourself or a vet. ( I can do this for a small fee )
Another way to keep your bunnies nails trim is to allow exercise on a concrete area, this will naturally wear down the nail.
Pics of nail trimming to follow!
